DDC.dk – Denmark's knowledge portal for design
On behalf of Danish Design Center, Kühl+co have designed and implemented DDC.dk, Denmark's most comprehensive knowledge portal dedicated to design. We were awarded the project in competition with Denmark's foremost design and web agencies.
The purpose of the DDC.dk portal is to document and make available existing design knowledge in Denmark, and to present this knowledge to business, designers, design students and the general public. Other purposes include creating contacts between designers and business, and between students and established design companies. DDC's activities, in-house knowledge and exhibitions are also envisaged for presentation to a wide audience. All this must be maintainable by DDC's staff and external content partners in a user-friendly Content Management System (CMS).
For the portal to achieve all its lofty aims, well thought-out design is required together with a well-developed system architecture for guiding visitors to the information they need. Kühl+co have supplied both.
DDC.dk contains multiple features for making the information in the portal readily available. These include an ingenious information classification system that enables visitors to choose the type of content they are interested in, in addition to large numbers of information shortcut throughout the portal.
The portal also includes a built-in design network, DDC:net, where people and companies affiliated to the design sector can create their profiles and thereby become visible. DDC:net members can comment on portal content, conduct internal dialogues, and contribute new content.
Managing Director of Danish Design Center, Ulla Hovgaard Ramlau: ”Danish Design Center collaborated with Kühl+co on the development of the knowledge portal DDC.dk. The portal’s main purpose is to make design visible to a numerous of target groups and support DDC as a centre for knowledge and mediator between Danish businesses and designers. The collaboration with Kühl+co has been a positive experience. They have been a good strategic sparring partner and showed great skills and knowledge within visual identity, technical aspects and in handling the processes of this project. Kühl+co master the sometimes-difficult task of keeping a promise and show a high level of ambitions and quality throughout the project”.
DDC.dk is executed in WebPoint 4 based on the Content Management System (CMS) ScriptServer.
